Yes Man Download free

What if someone dared you to say “yes” more often? Have you ever truly considered just how many times you deny the requests of others on a weekly basis? What if you took up all of the people sending you junk mail on their offers? Such is the curiosity of British comedian and former BBC producer Danny Wallace that he embarked on just such a course of action. After a stranger on the bus told him to say yes more often, he resolved to do exactly that for a period of several months. Opening his mind to new ideas in this manner, Wallace was shocked to discover just how many casual “no” answers he gave and how inverting his responses each time affected him dramatically. The humorist found so much fresh, new material from the endeavor that he wrote a book about it entitled Yes Man.

Warner Bros. has decided to make a theatrical adaptation of this novel. Peyton Reed, the director of Bring It On, The Break-Up and Down with Love, has signed on to direct. The real coup, however, is the lead actor signed on to star in the project. Jim Carrey will return to somewhat familiar territory in this comedy, which hearkens back to his work in the 1997 release, Liar Liar. In that film, Carrey's character was unable to tell a lie as opposed to having to say yes to everything here.

Suffice it to say that this is a career choice for Carrey, as Liar Liar is one of the most successful projects of his career. It opened to $31.4 million in March of 2007 on its way to $181.4 million in domestic receipts. Those numbers inflation adjust to a $48.6 million opening and $281.0 million in terms of final box office. Yes Man certainly will not match those numbers, at least not the $281.0 million, but this total does give you some idea about how much consumers liked seeing Carrey in a similar role. If Yes Man has the type of killer trailers that release did, it will be a huge factor at the box office.

The other interesting aspect of Yes Man's box office is that Carrey waived his $25 million fee for the project. Instead, he has made one of these complicated, new Hollywood business deals wherein he guts a cut of the gross once the movie has earned back its negative cost. According to Variety, Carrey will 33% of all profit revenue as well as a third of all DVD sales revenue from dollar one. We may have to print new money with Jim Carrey's face on it before this is all said and done. (David Mumpower/BOP)

You and I

Beyoncé is one of those rare musicians with such a natural onscreen charisma that you assume she's done more movies than she actually has. Beyond her memorable turn in Dreamgirls as a Diana Ross doppelganger, her filmography has been limited to self-aware portrayals of breathy divas (Austin Powers in Goldmember and The Pink Panther), feisty black women (The Fighting Temptations) and a successful hip-hop artist married to a successful hip-hop artist (playing herself in Fade to Black).

Given the (I'm being nice, here) relatively narrow acting scope that Beyoncé has displayed so far, wouldn't it be nice if she had a star vehicle where she could show off her serious acting chops while at the same time, display her bootilicious booty? If only a movie like that existed . . . .

Voila, Beyoncé! Have we got a movie for you! It's called Obsessed and guess what? It's being produced by you and your uber-controlling father! Now you'll be able to make sure that people think of you as the talented thespian that you've always imagined yourself to be.

Plot? Oh that's right, movies need plots. That's especially important if you're a moderately-trained cinematic artiste. Basically, you play a really hot woman who has a really hot husband (Idris Elba from American Gangster and 28 Weeks Later). In fact, he's so hot, that he catches the eye of a hot woman at his office (Ali Larter from Heroes) who immediately decides that she must have him for her own. It's basically one big hot mess as Larter becomes (get ready for it) Obsessed over Elba and joins the Stalker guild, much to Beyoncé's (hot) dismay.

The film is scheduled for release on February 27, 2009, which is strange because that comes AFTER the Oscars. You'd think Beyoncé would be looking to position this for a run at the much coveted Best Actress trophy. Hrmm. Maybe the distributor, Screen Gems, doesn't have as much faith in this film as Beyoncé and her father does. (Jason Lee/BOP)

Free download You Dont Mess With The Zohan movie

After a side-trip into Serious Actorville and playing Somewhat Normal Guy In Family (or Gay Marriage) Comedy, Adam Sandler returns to wacky mode in this summer's biggest mouthful of a title, You Don't Mess with the Zohan.

Sandler is the title character, Zohan, an Israeli counter-terrorist who would really much rather be styling hair than, you know, shooting people. Faking his own death in order to escape, he makes his way to New York where he rapidly becomes the most popular stylist in the city. Unfortunately, this eventually attracts the attention of a few people (including John Turturro) from his past who would very much like him dead. Emmanuelle Chriqui (most recently seen in Entourage) plays the requisite Sandler love interest.

The usual Sandler regulars make their appearances here. It's directed by Dennis Dugan, who (among many other things) has also directed I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry, Big Daddy and Happy Gilmore for Sandler, and of course there's a Rob Schneider cameo. The script was penned by Sandler, SNL writer Robert Smigel and also by something called a Judd Apatow. Maybe you've heard of him.

You Don't Mess With the Zohan had a commercial at this year's Super Bowl, but it and the full trailer weren't exactly full of laughs (the "foot uppercut" bit is comedy gold, but that's about it). There's no questions on whether or not Sandler still has an audience. His Longest Yard remake earned a holiday inflated $47 million, 2006's Click opened to $40 million and last year's Chuck and Larry brought $34.2 million on opening weekend. While it still seems a bit dubious that Zohan would duplicate any of them, it's certainly not out of the question, especially with the Apatow touch. (Tim Briody/BOP)

Young Adult

The last time Diablo Cody and Jason Reitman teamed up, it was for the 2007 monster indie-hit Juno. Then, we saw what happens when the geeky kids in high school become popular. Now, on their first film reunion, we see the reverse; making the downfall of the High School Queen Bee just as satisfying as seeing the nerds take their revenge.

A dark, dark comedy (if it can be even called a comedy; there are a lot fewer laughs than expected for a script written by the Juno-scribe), Charlize Theron gives a showcase performance as Mavis Gary, a ghostwriter of a used-to-be-popular young adult fiction novel series. In fact, used-to-be is a great way to describe Mavis. A used-to-be teen Queen of her high school, Mavis still acts the bitchy part, albeit through her crowd of followers.

Directed by slice-of-life director Jason Reitman (Juno, Up in the Air), Young Adult's first scene is Mavis passed out, face first on her messy, bed waking up to chugging a 2-liter bottle of Diet Coke. She's a reality show star waiting to happen. While the rest of the world has grown up, Mavis seems trapped in an adolescent mindset â€" the only thing maturing is her skill in scheming.

Diablo Cody won her Oscar for the Sunny-D chugging Juno. Charlize Theron won her Oscar for the dark and heavy Monster. Mavis Gary seems like a Frankenstein-ian mash-up of the two genres and Reitman's extreme close-ups of Gary's intense beauty regiment (a montage of facials, pedicures, manicures, hair extensions, moisturizers, and tweezing) is the monster coming to life. Devoid of guilt and filled with bitter resentment, her facial expression is permanently set as a stone cold death stare. The only person Mavis lights up for is her ex-high school sweetheart, Buddy Slade (Patrick Wilson, who never quite matches Theron's intense velocity).

Determined to win Buddy back (Mavis well-knowing that he is married with a newborn baby), she returns to her “hick town” (the school's football team is called the “Injuns”) for a week of personal jabs.

Theron finally has found a meaty role where she doesn't have to tone down her beauty, but rather is able embrace it. On the outside, Mavis is drop dead gorgeous, but with her piercing eyes full of venom that could make her enemies drop dead, Theron is chillingly marvelous. Not given any favors by Diablo's sarcastic and cynical dialogue or Reitman's unflattering camera angles (which Theron defies, proving that she can be shot stumbling drunk and still be sexy), Charlize manages to attract the viewer to her repulsive character beyond just hot looks.

Never shy, Kevin Smith's newest cinematic outing Zack and Miri Make a Porno promises opportunities galore for frank dialogue, nudity and quite possibly his biggest box office success to date. Smith's movies tend to stall out in the $30 million box office range. However, Zack and Miri Make a Porno not only futures the aforementioned nudity but Seth Rogen, the R-rated comedy star of the moment, so prepare for a breakout success (in relative terms) from Kevin Smith.

Fans of Smith's View Askewniverse may be disappointed that Zack and Miri Make a Porno does not take place in continuity, particularly since the only other film Smith has done outside the Askewniverse is the disappointing Jersey Girl. But at a minimum, this is a less sentimental project (to say the least) and should better fit Smith's strengths both as a writer and director.

Zack and Miri Make a Porno stars Rogen and the always-game-for-anything Elizabeth Banks as friends who are strapped for cash and decide to solve that problem by making a porno. Since there's a high school reunion involved, it's likely that wackiness will ensue. BOP is also willing to bet that there is a strong possibility that the main characters' platonic relationship won't be so platonic by the end credits.

The nudity likely won't extend to Rogen, whose drawing power has always been more personality and verbosity-based. Add to that Smith's knack for interesting and colorful dialogue and you're looking at a promising mix. The cast also features members of the Kevin Smith Players â€" Jason Mewes, Jennifer Schwalbach Smith and Jeff Anderson; the always fantastic Craig Robinson (Darryl from NBC's The Office); and, for a little porn-cred, Traci Lords. Zodiac (2007)

Based on two non-fiction books by Robert Graysmith, Zodiac will center on the story of the infamous serial killer who terrorized the San Francisco bay area during the late 1960s and '70s. People have been fascinated by this true crime story for years, as the creepy gunman in an executioner's hood made people afraid to be alone on the streets during his horrible reign.

As part of his M.O., the Zodiac killer sent letters to the police, taunting them for their ineptitude. Additionally, he sent letters to newspapers and left other puzzling clues, including cryptograms. As he committed his 37 or more murders, the killer made sure that his story went on in perpetuity by documenting much of what he did, focusing particularly on the San Francisco Chronicle. The case remains unsolved to this day, but Graysmith, who was a Chronicle staff member at the time the murders were taking place, has investigated the case from the beginning and knows more about it than anyone save the killer himself.

David Fincher will direct the film adaptation, which will primarily focus on the reporters, police investigators and attorneys who became involved in the mystery. Jake Gyllenhaal will portray Graysmith, while Mark Ruffalo will play the man who was the lead investigator on the case. Other stars include Robert Downey Jr., whose character is a reporter, and Gary Oldman, who plays an attorney who himself received a Christmas letter from the killer that posited that there may be more deaths to come. Rob Zombie likes old movies a whole bunch, and is a heavy metal musician. This, apparently, qualifies a person to direct horror and action films. I wonder how far this extends. If Mariah Carey was a huge fan of Some Like it Hot, could she make romantic comedies? If Kenny Chesney loved The Searchers, would we be handing him a camera and telling him to make a postmodern western? Anyway.

Zombie's follow-up to his unnecessary, uncreative, and downright irritating 2007 remake of Halloween is entitled Tyrannosaurus Rex, and Mr. Zombie would like you to know that it in absolutely no way is about dinosaurs. Rather, it's about a guy named Rex. Who is presumably quite fierce. (And maybe has really short arms?)

Early buzz for Tyrannosaurus Rex came with the release of a faux-vintage poster, showing the gun-toting, furious lead character snarling in the midst of a desert landscape, along with a tagline that cannot be reprinted on this site. Two posters have been released for Rex, both featuring an image of the star…which is something, considering the part hasn't been cast as of yet. In fact, no cast has been announced, besides the obligatory role for Sheri Moon Zombie.

Asked for further details, Zombie admitted that despite the appearance of the poster and Dimension announcing a release date, he hadn't even written a script yet. Which I'm sure doesn't exactly fill Dimension's investors with confidence.

There's been some suggestion that the film is in some way related to Zombie's brief comic book series The Nail; however, this information doesn't come from Zombie, and should be regarded as speculative at best. Seriously, though: not about dinosaurs. If you take one thing away from this article, take the fact that Rob Zombie does not make dinosaur movies, dammit. (Sean Collier/BOP)

Zookeeper: FREE Download Links!

Before Paul Blart: Mall Cop was released, Kevin James was already set to star in The Zookeeper. Consider this for a second. With a January 6th release date and an, at best, mildly amusing TV spot, what makes Mr. Producer think Blart would be a hit and that signing James for another project that's basically the same film would be a good idea? If you asked me back in January, I'd have said Paul Blart was going to be a dud. I guess that's why I'm here writing about him and he's swimming in the $143 million it made at the box office.

So now we have The Zookeeper, Kevin James' “highly anticipated” follow-up to his box office smash. This time he's, yes, a zookeeper who decides to leave his job due to his inability to meet women, prompting the zoo's animals to intervene, breaking their vow of silence. Box office prince Kevin James and talking animals. Why didn't you think of his before, Hollywood? Don't you want to make money?

Adam Sandler's company Happy Madison, which is also responsible for Blart, will produce with Frank Coraci directing. Coraci has a suitable track record for this type of fare, previously helming Sandler vehicles The Waterboy, The Wedding Singer and Click. He is also the unfortunate man behind the camera of the disastrous uber-budget flop Around the World in 80 Days. We'll call that his mulligan, but then what would we call Click? The only other cast in place is Thomas Gottschalk, a famous German TV host, as a homosexual German fashion designer. Classy.

Screenwriting team Jay Scherick and David Ronn wrote the script. The two also have appropriate credits for this genre, though they haven't quite hit the big time, penning films such as I Spy and National Security. They also carry the dubious honor of having their names attached to the film that cost Eddie Murphy an Oscar, Norbit.

These pieces all but guarantee another hit for James and Happy Madison. If there's anything more popular than Kevin James as the protector of a public place, it's talking animals. Together they make a harrowing box office force. Expect Kevin James starring as a bumbling Park Ranger who talks to adorable woodland creatures to go into production soon. (Tom Macy/BOP)

In 1963, a superhero team of misfits was created. Following the lead of their wheelchair-bound strategist, this group of social outcasts fought for the betterment of the world around them. And they did so despite the fact that the same people they assisted viewed them as a rogue's gallery of misfits. Perhaps most shockingly of all, this group did not operate under the Marvel license. No, they were not X-Men. This DC Comics cast of characters pre-dates Professor Xavier's crew by several months. They are called Doom Patrol, and Hollywood is preparing to give this 40-year-old group theatrical life for the first time.

The idea of copycatting is perhaps the main precept of the comic book industry. If DC has a tortured Batman, then Marvel needs a tortured Wolverine. If Marvel has a nefarious immortal villain named Apocalypse, then DC has one named Ra's al Ghul. This is the nature of the industry, and it is a commonly accepted practice. The case of Doom Patrol versus X-Men is simply the most dramatic example that being first isn't always best.

The members of Doom Patrol were written to be the ultimate outcasts. Their members included a paraplegic genius, the brain of a star athlete trapped in the body of a robot, a woman who could shrink down to an inch or grow to be 100 feet tall, and a man composed entirely of negative energy wrapped in bandages. 1960s audiences were non-plussed by this motley crew, so much so that DC Comics did the unthinkable. The entire team was destroyed while trying to save a small town in Maine.

Over the years, the popularity of the X-Men has soared while Doom Patrol has become the Halley's Comet of comic books. After its initial cancellation in 1968, the series returned briefly in 1977 (true story: I still have the issue in my garage...and I am not a comic book collector), 2001, and 2004. During the '80s, the comic had frequent re-boots instead of cancellations. At these points, main characters would be introduced and sent along their way.

There was even a brief period of (I kid you not) Dadist surrealism. As you might imagine, a superhero group with a Peace, Love and Dope message would probably not translate well as a comic book movie. This risky, previously unattempted style of daring storytelling created a small but zealous fan-base of diehard Doom Patrol fans.

The current resurgence in popularity of Doom Patrol owes a lot to the success of its most recognized member, Beast Boy. As a kid, Garfield Logan was an original member of the group. They were like a family to him prior to his hooking up with a slightly more established group of heroes: the Teen Titans. When the animated tales of their adventured reached the final season, the producers of Teen Titans dug deep to find villains worthy of the powerful kids. Their choice was the Brotherhood of Evil, not coincidentally the main foes of Doom Patrol. There was even a story arc where the original members of the group met the now-pubescent Beast Boy, discovering he was much more mature.

Presumably, the Brotherhood of Evil will also be the bad guys in a Doom Patrol movie. Which members are included on the side of the angels is up for speculation. The most recent published version of Doom Patrol includes the original core of Beast Boy, Chief, Elasti-Girl, Mento, Negative Man, and Robotman. Two new characters, Bumblebee and Vox, have also been added in the comic's current run.

Since there have been over 30 members during the on again/off again run of the show, however, almost any of them is a possibility. In addition, DC Comics might decide to save Beast Boy potential Teen Titans movie. That's a tricky decision since he has the most name recognition out of the potential Doom Patrol members, but Teen Titans would be the production with more box office franchise potential.

While X-Men has shattered box office records with three opening weekends averaging around $80 million, Doom Patrol has stood on the outside looking in. No sane person feels this fledling franchise has that sort of box office potential, but the Hollywood studio system is starting to take more chances on lesser-known properties. Warner Bros. Has hired unheralded scribe Adam Turner to write the screenplay. Before you get upset, remember that it could be worse. Akiva Goldsman is producing. If he gets a whiff of the script, Robotman will wind up with nipples on his body armor. (David Mumpower/BOP)

You have to hand it to John Cena. He has tricked people into watching him using the reverse psychology of the catchphrase, “You can't see me.” The end result is that they look harder and it makes them overlook the fact that he's kind of a dink. Despite his stiff, less than athletic performances as a pro wrestler, his personality has allowed him to become a world champion in his sport. He is also in the formative phase of a would-be acting career in Hollywood despite the fact that his first film, The Marine, didn't even match its $20 million production budget during its theatrical run.

Undeterred by the failure of The Marine, once famous director Renny Harlin has signed up Cena to frontline an action flick called 12 Rounds. The premise here is simple. A shameless nogoodnik has a score to settle with Cena. In order to achieve payback, he has kidnapped the detective's girlfriend, who looks a lot like Ashley Scott of Birds of Prey and Jericho. Cena is forced to follow the rules of the psycho's game by finishing a dozen tests of wit and skill in order to attain an inevitable final face-off wherein the villain presumably dies in some harrowing but ironic manner, allowing Cena and Scott to be joined together in steroid-laden, saline-filled matrimony.

The only reason to believe that this might not be formulaic movie-making is the presence of Harlin, but let's be honest here. The man hasn't been choosy about his paychecks lately. His films in the 2000s are Driven, the Sylvester Stallone comeback film that prevented Stallone from coming back (what's Kip Pardue up to these days anyway?); Mindhunters, which is the current BOP record holder for most times pulled off the release schedule (with five, if you're scoring at home); Exorcist: The Beginning, a movie so bad it got directed twice; The Covenant, the unfortunate early warning signal that Twilight would break out; and Cleaner, a $25 million production that never merited domestic release. What I'm saying here is that if ever a tandem deserved one another, it's John Cena and Renny Harlin. If you're smart enough to be reading BOP, you're plenty smart enough to know what dreck this is going to be. As Cena himself says, you can't see him. Not in this. You deserve better. There are times when it sucks to be Aron Ralston. One time in particular was when he was trapped by a boulder and had to extricate himself from the situation by using a dull knife to…you know what, I don't want to talk about that. It's too horrific to consider. The point is that Ralston wrote a biography about the nightmarish ordeal that comprised roughly 127 hours of his life. Not so cleverly titled Between a Rock and a Hard Place, the true story of forced amputation attracted the attention of one Danny Boyle.

Any time a director makes a movie for $15 million and it earns $380 million worldwide while also winning eight Academy Awards, said director is in the driver's seat for their next production. Since this is exactly what happened with Boyle's prior film, Slumdog Millionaire, 127 Hours is a rather standoffish choice for a follow-up project. Then again, given the lauded director's resume to date, no one should be surprised by yet another eclectic choice. Whether the topic is a dead body, a bunch of stoners, a beach, an outer space mission, a zombie infestation, or a game show performance, Boyle has found a way to make the story interesting. Since 127 Hours is already a fascinating true life tale of adversity overcome, this feels like a natural implementation of his skill set.

Of course, the key to the success of 127 Hours will rest on the shoulders of the actor playing Ralston. Freaks and Geeks icon James Franco has been tasked with this assignment, one of the most difficult acting performances in recent memory. If Ralston's actual events are recounted without a lot of artistic liberties taken, Franco will be onscreen by himself for over half of the movie. As was the case with Tom Hanks developing a relationship with Wilson in Cast Away, the boulder that traps Franco will be his main source of interaction for a significant portion of the film. Lizzie Caplan, Amber Tamblyn, Clémence Poésy, Kate Mara, Treat Williams and Kate Burton have been cast as family members of Ralston as well as a couple of people he meets during his ill-fated trip. Make no mistake, though. Most of this film will be James Franco staring at a rock, which is an amazing true life event. How well it will work as a movie remains to be seen. (David Mumpower/BOP)

It would be easy for John Cusack to settle into the role of being a leading man in various romantic comedies. He does it well and it's a niche that women accept him in. But rather than simply accept a paycheck for any trite movie that comes his way, Cusack takes some chances. In 2007 alone he's scheduled to star in an indie film that has him playing the grieving husband of a woman killed in Iraq, a quirky flick that features him as adoptive father to a very strange young boy and a satire that pokes fun at the inner workings of the U.S. war machine. He also stars in 1408, a horror flick that appears to be a cut above the slashers and gornos that have come to typify the genre of late.

In 1408, Cusack plays a writer named Mike Enslin. after the death of his daughter, Enslin becomes set on debunking the idea of an afterlife. He travels the world, finding different haunted locations and proving that no such thing is really occurring. His books are best sellers and his confidence in what he believes is absolute.

One day, Enslin receives a postcard in the mail describing the opportunity to spend ten nights in ten haunted hotel rooms. Of particular note to him is Suite 1408 in the Dolphin Hotel. This notorious room has become well known for the fact that a number of people have died under mysterious circumstances while staying there. Enslin decides to make the Dolphin hotel his next destination.

The manager of the hotel (Samuel L. Jackson) tries repeatedly to warn Enslin that Suite 1408 is extremely dangerous and that it is foolhardy to test the hand of fate. He is unable to get through to the writer, though, and he checks in for a stay. It doesn't take long before very weird and terrifying things begin to happen. Will Enslin be the room's next victim?

1408 is based on a story by Stephen King, a fact that is sure to be heavily advertised in the weeks before the film's release. The studio is Dimension Films, an arm of the Weinstein Company, which hasn't had a lot of luck lately, so much will be riding on their ability to sell this to a broad public. With a very creepy trailer that does a fantastic job of establishing atmosphere, they're already on the right track. (Kim Hollis/BOP)

Zac Efron is the closest thing there's been to a teen heartthrob lately thanks to the runaway success of High School Musical and last summer's Hairspray. Now he stars in 17 Again, and seeing as it's been five years since Freaky Friday, it's time for another body switching/wish fulfillment comedy again.

Efron is Mike, a high school senior who has it all back in the '80s. But the next 25 years didn't go exactly as he planned, and he's now separated from his wife, stuck in a dead end job and living with his best friend.

Some magical/mysterious voodoo later, he's 17 again, and gets a second chance to try it all over. Expect lots of fashion and technology jokes as Mike attempts to readjust to high school, and there will be Important Life Lessons learned. Matthew Perry is Older Mike and also starring are Leslie Mann, Michelle Trachtenberg and Thomas Lennon.

Efron has had the most success of the High School Musical cast so far, and this is his first true leading role since then. Since a great deal of the plot appears to hinge on Efron's character being much older than he actually is, it seems that acting skill would be involved, but whether he convincingly pulls it off or not is completely irrelevant to the legions of screaming girls who will very likely show up and make 17 Again a potential box office surprise. After becoming a cult favorite thanks to his television series Freaks and Geeks and Undeclared, the multi-talented Judd Apatow took a stint as a producer on a little 2004 comedy known as Anchorman. There, he became acquainted with the scene-stealer of the movie, Steve Carell. Thanks to that fortunate meeting of the minds, the duo is now collaborating on a project of their own, giving Apatow the opportunity to direct his first ever feature film from a screenplay he co-wrote with Carell.

That movie has what is perhaps the ultimate truth-in-advertising title. The 40 Year-Old Virgin is about exactly that. Although it seems impossible in a day and age when fair percentages of ninth graders admit to having had at least oral sex, the main character, Andy Stitzer (Carell) has somehow managed to avoid intercourse during his four decades on the planet. This might make him a candidate for the Guinness Book of World Records for Oldest Living Virgin Outside a Convent or Monastery, but his friends have a lot of trouble accepting that this is Andy's lot in life.

The thing is, despite the fact that Andy has so far shunned carnal delights, it's not because he's a complete social outcast. Our hero has a great job at an electronics superstore, a fine apartment replete with a none-too-surprising collection of action figures and comic books, and a whole slew of friends. These friends, however, are dumbfounded when they discover that Andy really hasn't ever…you know. And frankly, he doesn't seem particularly concerned if he ever has sex â€" good or otherwise. So his friends and co-workers make it their mission to get Andy a woman, and given that Andy is a decent enough looking guy with nice manners and a pleasant demeanor, they don't believe that task will be especially difficult.

But difficult is exactly what it turns out to be, for Andy is pretty much asexual and not any too keen to be deflowered, much to the chagrin of his loyal buddies. Andy continues to decline any and all chances to get laid, and it seems all his pals' efforts will be in vain…until Andy meets Trish (Catherine Keener), a 40-year-old mother of three. Andy falls the proverbial head-over-heels for Trish, and his friends are elated that Andy will finally get some. That is, until Andy informs them that he and Trish have embarked on their relationship with a no-sex policy. Will his friends be able to convince Andy to convince Trish to rock his world? Or will Andy go to his grave never having tasted the pleasures of the flesh? (Stephanie Star Smith/BOP)

In the realm of unlikely sequels, the order of precedence is Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo, Basic Instinct 2, and now a new entry on the list, Crank 2. For those of you who didn't see the first film, let me break it down for you. BOP fave Jason Statham accepts a big paycheck to star in an action movie about a man who needs to keep his adrenaline above a certain level. If he fails to keep his speed above 55 MPH…err, adrenaline above a certain level, the poison within him will kill him.

In order to fend off the effects of this Beijing Cocktail, Statham semi-enthusiastically fights an entire gang, drives his car up an escalator, snorts tons of nasal spray (don't ask) and uses a defibrillator on himself. The high point, however, if you love bad movies with horrifically bad ideas, occurs when Statham's character semi-rapes his girlfriend (Amy Smart, who clearly needs to fire her agent) right in front of about 200 people who…wait for it…cheer him on. Even better, the sexual assault victim, given the clear cut choices between dumping her boyfriend and pressing charges or getting extremely turned on, chooses the latter. It's the single worst cinematic “love” scene since Enemy at the Gates. BOP was sad for everyone involved…and we include the extras and camera crew in that.

To our total and complete shock, other critics disagreed. Crank has a Fresh rating at Rotten Tomatoes, making us wonder how many crack addicts have movie Web sites (other than us, of course). Still, the movie was not financially successful, earning only $27.8 million domestically, making the prospects of a sequel unlikely, even allowing for the paltry $12 million budget. Apparently, Statham wants another boat, though, so he signed on for another movie and - to our complete and utter amazement - so did Amy Smart. This is despite the fact that her previous role in Crank was the worst written female character since Kate Capshaw's Willie in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.

So, if Crank was this disastrous, what does Lionsgate have planned for Crank 2? Apparently, Statham's character, Chev Chelios, gets his heart stolen. And I am not speaking metaphorically. Ugh. If you go see this in a theater, I will personally fly to your city, drive to your home and slap you. (David Mumpower/BOP)

Download 2012: Ice Age movies for free

At the end of 2009, BOP chronicled the top film industry stories of that year. One of the selections was Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, a title that exemplified the growing importance of overseas revenue to Hollywood titles. The first two titles in the franchise had already grossed over a billion dollars worldwide, and so a strong performance by the third title was a foregone conclusion of sorts. Despite this, its results still managed to shock industry observers.

Ice Age and Ice Age: The Meltdown attained $664 million in international box office receipts. Dawn of the Dinosaurs effectively matched The Meltdown in terms of domestic take with $196.5 million opposed to $195.3 million. So, its overseas run was a complete shock. The third Ice Age movie earned $694 million internationally, more than the previous two films had managed in combined. And those were box office blockbusters. Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs earned $890 million overall, making it the number three title of 2009. As I type this, it is the 17th global blockbuster of all time. Shock of shocks, there will be a sequel.

Ice Age: Continental Drift is not the sort of title you will want your children to use as an educational tool. The constant disregard of scientific knowledge about history is something Ice Age creators Blue Sky Studios have been doing since the first sequel. They are taking creative license with millennia of cataclysmic events in order to return the three main characters: Manny, Sid and Diego. These are a mammoth, a sloth and a sabre-toothed tiger (technically cat but that sounds less cool), respectively.

Those of you watched the third movie probably remember that there were happy endings for all involved. The initial plan was to mothball Ice Age for a while after the third movie. Its box office prohibited this from occurring. Ergo, the start of the fourth film will see the big happy family that is the core group split by â€" and I have to hand it to the writers for this one â€" everyone's favorite nut-chaser, Scrat. His latest attempt to acquire acorns (how has the incompetent hunter not starved to death yet?) accidentally splits the land mass of Pangaea into the continental shapes we know today. Yes, the state of planet Earth is because of Scrat. In hindsight, we should have been rooting for his death during all of those perilous moments when he (?) should have plunged to his death.

The three protagonists from the Ice Age trilogy wind up on one chunk of ice while the family they have been nurturing over the past few years is on the other. This unexpected separation drives all of them to spend the body of the movie attempting to re-unite. Meanwhile, Scrat probably falls from significant heights while trying to eat acorns. Has Mythbusters ever taken on the Ice Age universe? They would have a field day.

You know what Ice Age is by now. If you have children, you almost certainly will be watching this. Then again, it doesn't matter if you do because Ice Age is so popular abroad that its domestic box office borders on irrelevant. It could conceivably earn a billion dollars worldwide with less than 20% of that coming from North American revenue. (David Mumpower/BOP)

In 2004, controversial director Michael Moore created what remains to this day to be the most popular documentary of all time. A Lionsgate release entitled Fahrenheit 9/11 capitalized upon the liberal frustration toward incumbent American president George W. Bush. The end result was a blockbuster movie that earned $119.1 million, a full 37% more than the second strongest earning documentary, Everest.

While the divisive subject matter of Fahrenheit 9/11 has been critically dissected beyond the edge of reason by opponents of the film, there was something learned in the process. An opposition piece against a sitting United States president is an opportunity to preach to the choir of people who want that elected official voted out of office. Fahrenheit 9/11 enlightened movie makers about a previously unknown business model. During an election season, there is money to be made by attacking the most powerful leader in the free world.

Perhaps Dinesh D'Souza is not a name you know. His resume, however, is quite impressive. During the 1980s, D'Souza served as a policy advisor to conservative icon Ronald Reagan. He has also been employed by right wing think tanks such as the Heritage Foundation and Hoover Institution. In 2010, he published a novel entitled The Roots of Obama's Rage. Reviewing the synopsis of this work reveals that D'Souza believes that anti-colonialism is the driving political philosophy of current American President Barack Obama.

The documentary 2016: Obama's America is intended to evoke an emotional reaction from its viewers. The film explores the upbringing of D'Souza in comparison to Obama. Then, the latter gentleman's Kenyan roots are explored, particularly the views of his anti-colonial father. The end result is a documentary that argues that Obama is against American exceptionalism and instead intends to “reshape America” as a country of lesser power.

Rocky Mountain Pictures, the distributor for previous conservative fare such as Atlas Shrugged: Part I and Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed, is championing this project. Presumably, there should be enough conservative frustration with the boogeyman they call Obama to turn this project into a hit, at least by documentary standards. 2016: Obama's America will be released in mid-July; however, its platform strategy is to expand the film to coincide with the Republican National Convention in late August. Competing against the dregs of late summer, this film could prove surprisingly competitive in the marketplace, at least for a time. (David Mumpower/BOP)

21 Grams: FREE Download Links!

As the trailer repeatedly tells us, 21 grams is the amount of weight a human body supposedly loses when it dies. Some people believe that this weight is the soul exiting the body.

This film from the creators of the heavy-themed Mexican film Amores Perros promises much more of the same. Director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu and screenwriter Guillermo Arriaga again use an automobile accident as a central incident to connect the characters in the film. In this case, these characters are portrayed by Benicio Del Toro, Sean Penn, and Naomi Watts.

Watts takes on the role of a former drug addict and single mother, who somehow finds her life intersecting both tragically and redemptory manner with a terminally ill mathematics professor (Penn) and an ex-con who has discovered spirituality (Del Toro). Given the fact that two of these characters have been romantically involved in the past (and may still be), there's already a bit of a connection but the story that will be woven should make for a intriguing study of destiny and the part it plays in our lives.

Amores Perros was truly the first of the Mexican "new wave" to capture the attention of art house fans, and many people will be eagerly anticipating Inarritu and Arriaga's first English-language work. Penn is already getting some strong buzz for his performance, and may be a heavy-duty contender for awards based on the fact that he has had two very solid roles both in this film and in Mystic River. Look for 21 Grams to make some noise as awards season rolls around. (Kim Hollis/BOP)

Free download 21 Jump Street movie

In 1987, the fledgling Fox Network debuted one of their first series, a blatant attempt to indoctrinate a new generation of teens into the would-be fourth network. Many of the shows aired in the early days were comically inept but a couple exceeded expectations. One of these, 21 Jump Street, not only attained a level of respect as a genre launch show but more importantly launched the career of one Johnny Depp, who has since become the biggest superstar in the world.

Since the show went off the air in 1991, there have been several attempts to re-launch it as either a new syndicated series or as a movie. The comedy tandem of Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the duo responsible for the blockbuster hit Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, was eventually given the same assignment as countless Hollywood directors before them. The difference is that where countless others failed, Lord and Miller triumphed. BOP is unsurprised by this because we are perhaps the most ardent fans of Clone High on the Internet and Clone High was the first series created by Lord and Miller.

With a working script by Michael Bacall (co-writer of Scott Pilgrim vs. the World) in place, Relativity Media and Sony were finally ready to cast the next generation who would replace Johnny Depp, Holly Robinson, Peter DeLuise, Dustin Nguyen and Richard Grieco. Before you laugh at the thought, consider that Robinson has consistently worked for 20 years, Grieco inconsistently during that timeframe and DeLuise along with his family has made a mint via the various Stargate series. 21 Jump Street's casting department deserves a lot of credit for the job they did in in the late '80s.

In 2012, the cops pretending to be high school students will be portrayed by Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill. If you are like me, you are laughing already. The jock/nerd dynamic is impossible to ignore with this tandem of sex symbol Tatum (who will also play a male stripper in Magic Mike) and newly thin but still dorky Hill. Even better, Ice Cube has been cast in the original Steven Williams role as the perennially angry African American cop who supervises the young police officers. This is a masterstroke in my estimation.

The premise remains the same as the original. Tatum and Hill's characters are fresh out of the police academy. They will be tasked to infiltrate a local high school and pretend to be students in order to unearth details about a local drug dealing operation. Along the way, they come to realize that high school has changed a great deal in just a few years due to the advent of the viral communication era.

The trailers, the cast members and the writers all hint at a very funny movie here. On paper, 21 Jump Street looks like another lame reboot of a tired concept from a quarter century ago. Something has to give. My money is on the Clone High tandem proving once again that they are among the funniest guys on the planet. 21 Jump Street should be a surprise hit. (David Mumpower/BOP)

30 Minutes Or Less

Whether or not the plot of 30 Minutes or Less was drawn from a real-life tragedy is beside the point, because no matter how you look at it, this comedy is a dud. It's not the movie's alleged insensitivity toward a terrible event that should urge people to avoid it; it's the movie itself, which is cursed with lazy writing, obnoxious performers and a meandering narrative that makes it a very long 83 minutes to endure.

One of the essential problems is it assumes the audience wants to listen to inane dialogue that we sometimes say to ourselves or in passing. For instance, how many times has someone said to you, “That's what she said,” even though its context is not a sexual situation? Or have you ever pondered why you have a Netflix account when the DVDs just sit on your coffee table?

These are the kinds of things the characters talk about, and although we've probably all heard or thought about them, it doesn't mean they belong in a screenplay. This is why it's lazy - the writers couldn't come up with anything more inspired so they defaulted to pointless observations in an attempt to speak the target demographics' language, which I suppose is teenage boys.

But if I was a teenage boy again, I would be insulted. Couldn't the writers imagine dialogue that was fresher, more insightful, more ironic and, above all, more funny? And why wouldn't the director put it upon his actors to deliver their lines more convincingly? The whole production just feels half-as*ed.

The plot follows Nick (Jesse Eisenberg), a pizza delivery boy who smokes joints and deliberately runs through red lights and stop signs to ensure he delivers his pizza in under 30 minutes (otherwise it's free). Nick is best friends with Chet, played by the stand-up comedian Aziz Ansari, who, I'm sorry to say, has no business making another movie until he takes some acting lessons. I've seen Ansari perform live and he's much more comfortable and natural on-stage, but on-screen he's transparent, unconvincing and lacking in confidence. I could tell he was trying to act, which pretty much defeats the purpose of acting.

A remake of the 1957 Western of the same name, 3:10 to Yuma features Russell Crowe and Christian Bale in the roles originated by Glenn Ford and Van Heflin. The 1957 movie is highly regarded as top notch in its genre, meaning that Lionsgate has a high standard to follow with this update.

James Mangold (Walk the Line) directs from a screenplay by Stuart Beattie (Collateral). In the film, Bale will star as Dan Evans, a rancher who is dealing with a variety of troubles. It's dry season, and he's having a rough time trying to save his land from impending drought. Meanwhile, his marriage is suffering, and his son is looking to leave the ranch and pursue other opportunities. He agrees to hold a captured outlaw who is waiting for the 3:10 train to Yuma, Arizona, where he'll go to trial. The two engage in a battle of wills and wits as Wade tries to overcome the rancher.

Westerns have proven to be a hard sell in recent years. While Unforgiven is fondly remembered (and rightly so), other movies from the genre have mostly crashed and burned. Still, with the popularity of shows like Deadwood, there's a chance that with good marketing that 3:10 to Yuma might show some modest success. It's not Russell Crowe's first go at the genre (he also starred in Sam Raimi's The Quick and the Dead), but he's certainly seen his popularity rise (and fall) since then. (Kim Hollis/BOP)

50/50

50/50 is about a young man who learns he has cancer, a premise that immediately triggers inevitable plot developments. Here's what I anticipated prior to seeing the movie: the young man will change physically; he'll go through a series of emotional stages like denial, sadness, anger and eventually acceptance; he'll befriend other cancer patients who provide him valuable insights into life, the disease and himself; he'll find redemption through suffering and empathy; and someone will die.

Yes, 50/50 is traditional in many ways, but in spite of that, its dialogue and performances are rich, genuine and down-to-earth, and they help keep the movie grounded and believable even though we know where it's going. Call this a touching human drama with no real surprises.

The patient's name is Adam (Josh Gordon-Levitt), a 27-year-old who works for Seattle Public Radio alongside his best friend from high school, Kyle (Seth Rogen). Adam is quiet, harmless and pleasant. He jogs, never smokes or drinks, and he makes it a point to tell his doctor he recycles. That's why he's so surprised to learn his back pains are being caused by a tumor growing on his spine. He has what Kyle refers to as “back cancer.” The technical term is neurofibroma sarcoma schwannoma, but it's easier to just say “back cancer.”

Although Adam is shocked to hear the news, he remains calm. Less worried is his self-centered girlfriend, Rachael (Bryce Dallas Howard), who says she'll take care of him, but there's just something in her eyes that makes you not believe her. Most of the worrying is handled by Adam's mother, played by Anjelica Huston, who couldn't be more perfectly cast. She's already got her hands full with Adam's father (Serge Houde), who's battling Alzheimer's disease.

(500) Days of Summer was screened at the Sundance Film Festival 09, and the buzz is very strong.

The film is told from the perspective of Tom (Joseph Gorden-Levitt), a hapless greeting card copywriter and hopeless romantic. He falls for the new temporary office mate Summer (Zooey Deschannel), who doesn't believe true love exists. Sounds like another run of the mill "opposites-attract" romantic comedy until you notice that the title lists 500 days, suggesting that maybe they don't live happily ever after. The film zaps back and fourth through various periods over the 500 days when they were together, showing the highs and lows of the relationship.

Deschanel and Gorden-Levitt have actually worked together before on Manic. Levitt has faded from the mainstream somewhat, turning up in great independent films such as Brick and Stop-Loss, and hasn't played a strong romantic lead since 10 Things I Hate About You. Deschanel is on the other end of the spectrum, having recently had box office hits with Yes Man and, despite the awfulness, people did actually turn The Happening into a profit.

Directed by Mark Webb, this is his feature film debut, previously a music video director working with the likes of My Chemical Romance and Maroon 5. His past experience has come in handy directing the song and dance numbers in the film. Yes, you read that right. Think small bursts of Across the Universe, since with Gorden-Levitt's character Tom being a fan of pop music he occasionally breaks out into song. In fact Webb's video for Maroon 5's Goodnight, Goodnight plays almost like a little precursor to the film itself. Written by Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber, both are also first timers.

The strong reception at Sundance has this hyped as building a new foundation for future wannabe romantic comedies to rip off. New York Magazine ranked it as one of the 15 best films at Sundance, while USA Today described it as a “must see movie of the festival,” and that it even received a standing ovation.

Distributed by Fox Searchlight Pictures, they managed to hit gold with Juno and more recently Slumdog Millionaire. If they can prove just how diverse this is from every other film Matthew McConaughey has starred in during the last eight years, then this could be their next $100 million earner, as well as the next romantic comedy talked up by the next generation. Free download 8 Mile movie

An Eminem-starring vehicle about an angry young man who tries to break away from his bleak circumstances in a rough Detroit neighborhood via his rap music, 8 Mile is vaguely reminiscent of another ostensibly-fictionalized tale that featured a big musical star, Mariah Carey's Glitter.

That's bad.

8 Mile is helmed by Curtis Hanson, who won an Oscar® for the screenplay of LA Confidential, in addition to being nominated as the film's director. He followed that fine project by taking on Wonder Boys, another movie that is regarded highly by critics and fans alike.

That's good.

Hanson is also the director of the painfully unfunny television series Greg the Bunny, which can currently be seen on Fox.

That's bad.

Nearly everything producer Brian Grazer touches turns to gold these days, with his most recent successes being Nutty Professor II: The Klumps, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and the coup de grce, the Academy Award® winning A Beautiful Mind. Grazer has spoken of his very favorable impressions of Eminem's intensity and maturity in delivering his performance, and claims that Hanson is creating an enthralling film that is full of life.

That's good.

Screenwriter Scott Silver's only other major scripting credit is for the abysmal Mod Squad.

That's bad.

There have been numerous rumors floating around the set that Eminem and co-star Kim Basinger are involved in a little romantic fling. Basinger plays the rapper's mother, and is nearly 20 years his senior.

Can I go now?

All kidding aside, 8 Mile is the latest in a series of recent projects to involve high-profile recording artists. Beginning with the aforementioned Glitter, and going on to the utter failure of On the Line, starring Lance Bass and Joey Fatone of the boy band 'N Sync, the prospects for such films looked dismal until Mandy Moore found success with A Walk to Remember and Britney Spears' Crossroads had a strong showing. The hope would be that the involvement of Grazer and Hanson will put 8 Mile a step above the rest, and with a $50 million budget, they'd better hope the quality is there.

Expanding on the film's plot, 8 Mile is known to Detroit natives as the city limit, but on a much deeper level, it symbolizes the psychological dividing line that keeps main character Jimmy Smith, Jr., from where and who he hopes to be. The story will focus on a critical month in the young man's life, as he attempts to find a sense of purpose and to establish his own identity even as his community and family crumble around him. He finds he is able to express his anger and fear through his rap music, which may help him transcend both the physical and the mental barriers he faces.

Rounding out the cast are Brittany Murphy (Don't Say a Word), Mekhi Phifer ("O") and Eugene Byrd, who plays one of Jimmy's rap buddies. Also factoring into the film's overall appeal will be a moody and provocative soundtrack by Eminem and Dr. Dre. Universal will probably wisely market the film heavily on MTV and the more youth-oriented networks, such as the WB and UPN, but it is important to keep in mind that 8 Mile will in all probability have a lot of rough language and situations. This indicates the film will likely merit an R rating without some editing for content, thereby putting itself out of range of some of the demographic most likely to have a strong interest. Still, with the involvement of Grazer and Imagine Entertainment, 8 Mile is not a film to be taken lightly. (Kim Hollis)

Let's see. An R-rated teen romance/drama set in 1958 Brooklyn, featuring warring teen gang factions, and starring Fairuza Balk and Matt Dillon. Riiiight. Rumor has it that Deuces Wild will actually see wide release in theaters. Riiight. OK, maybe it will. But will it make any difference? With no less than six new films slated to debut the weekend of September 14th, Deuces Wild will have the fight of its life to get any box-office props at all.

On the other hand, due to the subject matter and a cast that includes Dillon, Balk, Brad Renfro, Stephen Dorff, Frankie Muniz, Debbie Harry and Johnny Knoxville, this film will be noticed by the media and, therefore, by the public. MGM is obviously struggling with the rating and the subject matter, but look what Universal did with Fast and the Furious. They took a negative subject - street racing, drugs, theft and gangs - and turned that into a marketing campaign. Every local news station picks up the story and runs with it. Is Deuce's Wild going to be the next Fast and the Furious? Probably not, but it may have more going for it than what appears on paper. This is still a wait-and-see project.

The kids will be back in school to elicit the all-important word-of-mouth in the cafeteria, so if MGM has something good here, they may just have a chance at opening it to $8-10 million. (John Hamann/BOP)

According to the MGM Web site, Deuces Wild has been pushed to 2002. It remains to be seen whether the film will be given a choice spot on the release schedule or if it will be allowed to die, but all signs would certainly seem to point towards the latter. (Kim Hollis/BOP)

MGM has now selected to move the ever-shifting Deuces Wild to May 3rd as counter-programming against Spider-Man. Good luck with that. (Kim Hollis/BOP)

When readers of Yann Martel's Life of Pi learned it was going to be turned into a movie, I suspect their first question was: how? How do you take such a rich, imaginative story, with themes of spirituality that are more conceptual than tangible, and put them on film? After seeing Ang Lee's adaptation, the answer becomes oh so clear and we leave the theater not asking how Lee did it, just thankful that he did.

I recently read and enjoyed Martel's book. Whether that makes me subconsciously biased toward the film, I can't say for sure, but what I can say is it exceeded my expectations. And because the movie is so striking and well made, I'm confident it would have been just as engrossing had I not read the source material. Just as Martel did, Lee utilizes simple yet classic storytelling devices, which prove highly effective. With a likeable hero; an incredible conflict; and a thoughtful, moving ending, Life of Pi becomes a film of relentless beauty and energy, the kind we wish would go on forever.

What makes Life of Pi - both the book and film - even more remarkable is that it engages us despite us knowing how it ends. We know, for instance, that Pi, the main character, will survive his lost-at-sea journey because he's the one narrating it to us. You'd think this information would hinder the story's efficacy and suspense, but that's hardly the case, probably because this is hardly your average story.

In 1974, Charles Bronson starred in what was widely considered to be his best movie, Death Wish. Based on a Brian Garfield novel that became a franchise of Death-related vengeance books, Death Wish followed the life of Charles Kersey as he made good on a promise to get back at all of the robbers who had entered his house, stolen his things, and defiled his daughter. Bronson was the perfect avenging angel, and this became his defining role as an action star. He ran the premise into the ground by starring in five different Death Wish movies. These were not, however, adaptions of Garfield's other works.

Fast forward to 2007. Saw creator James Wan has decided to make a theatrical adaptation of the direct sequel to Death Wish, Death Sentence. Before Bronson fans get too excited, it's important to note that the Paul Kersey character is not the star of Death Sentence. Instead, an entirely new family is terrorized by criminals, creating another Kersey-type of vigilante in John Hume (Kevin Bacon). Having seen his family fall victim to gangland activity, Hume sets out to exact revenge upon all of the members involved. Tracking his trail of broken bodies is a homicide detective (former Talk Soup host Aisha Tyler) who wants to stop the man before he doles out more justice on the gang's conflicted leader, Billy Darly (Garrett Hedlund of Four Brothers).

Upon release in the mid-1970s, Death Wish was considered to have wildly controversial subject matter due to its premise of the righteousness of vigilante justice. These days, that's hardly a unique philosophy in cinema, but Wan already reinvigorated one genre, horror, with his unique themes in Saw. BOP would not put it past him to accomplish a similar feat with eye-for-an-eye cinema. (David Mumpower/BOP)

Going Greek is in again, and I am not talking about in the Queer Eye for the Straight Guy capacity. Instead, I am referencing the recent Hollywood run on all things Homer. The tip of this iceberg is this $100 million epic based on The Iliad.

Troy re-tells one of the most famous stories in the history of written languages. Helen, the Queen of Sparta, is kidnapped by Paris, the Prince of Troy. Helen's husband, King Menelaus, is something of an old-school romantic rather than a mod swinger. He wants the missus back. He beseeches his powerful brother, King Agamemnon of the Myceneans, to put together a bandit party to re-steal the kidnapped Helen.

For his part, Agamemnon has been aching to get a piece of the Troy action for a while now. This region is the only one not currently under his control, because their citadel is an impenetrable fortress. For the love of his brother and the desire for empire, Aggie (as I am certain his friends called him) dutifully agrees to help.

Something of a fan of overkill, the two brothers in arms proceed to assemble a naval fleet of historically unprecedented size. This leads Helen, who I am certain was pretty enough in her own way, to become the subject of the most overblown hype the world had ever known until the day Jeremy Shockey entered the NFL. Her P.R. Agents began crediting her as the most beautiful woman in the world; history remembers her as the face that launched a thousand ships. I say she was no Zhang Ziyi, but alas, the story predates digital photography so my assertion is impossible to prove.

Under any circumstance, there was only one man capable of successfully invading Troy. He was a warrior for the ages, and his successes lasted the test of time. His name was Achilles, and he will be the hero of this story. It probably won't be played up much that he was such a sissy that a blow to his foot killed him, though. Achilles, something of a strategist, eventually employs an attack involving a trojan horse that leads his troops to victory. Maybe you've heard about it. I'm told it's quite famous, though it sounds a bit Seabiscuit-y to me.

Troy is arguably the frontline project of the first half of the year. The cast includes Brad Pitt, The Hulk (Eric Bana), that nerdly elf (Orlando Bloom), living legend Peter O'Toole (c'mon Academy, this might be your last chance), Julie Christie, Brian Cox, Sean Bean and Saffron Burrows. Oddly though, the all-important role of Helen was given to an unknown, Diane Kruger, rather than an established beauty.

The helm is being taken by The Perfect Storm's Wolfgang Petersen. Between that film and Das Boot, he has become the go-to guy in Hollywood for nautical adventures. If Master and Commander does wind up being a franchise, don't be surprised to see him in the director's chair somewhere down the road there, either.

One interesting footnote: although we generally don't make notations about the technical aspects of production, Warner Bros. is hyping as one of the Troy sets as of the largest ever. They have apparently recreated the palace and the rest of the citadel in order to more accurately give viewers the perspective of the size of the task Achilles faced in his invasion.

BOP, never afraid to go out on a limb, boldly predicts that Troy will be big. We also think the sun will set tonight and might even rise again tomorrow. (David Mumpower/BOP)

Few writers have shown an ability to tweak and play with the conventions of genre like Joss Whedon. From his early work subverting vampire movies to recent works taking on science fiction and westerns (and musicals!), Whedon hasn't found a type of entertainment he couldn't rip apart and turn on its head.

For his first foray into non-adapted film in almost a decade, Whedon takes on the spooky cabin in the woods horror film titled, appropriately enough, Cabin in the Woods. Although few details are available at this time, we do know that he's co-writing with Drew Goddard, who penned Cloverfield, along with several episodes of Buffy, Angel, Alias and Lost. Goddard will also direct for his feature film debut.

It's difficult to know exactly what to expect at this point, with no cast announced, or even a possible plot. However, it's a good bet that Whedon and Goddard are planning on gutting both some unsuspecting teens, as well as a genre. (Reagen Sulewski/BOP)

With the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows on July 21, 2007, J.K. Rowling's epic series of novels came to an end. As the series of seven books wound down, Hollywood diligently started to catch up on the movies before the various cast members start going bald. That's right. Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger are back for the sixth time and after recent contract negotiations, the original actors who have played them in the first five films â€" Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson - are locked up to ride this money train to its final stop. Not everyone will be joining them as the sixth title in the franchise includes the shocking death of, well, you know.

For those of you who somehow have not read the sixth Harry Potter novel - statistically speaking, that should be roughly 20% - the filler that was Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is largely a thing of the past. That means no more Dolores Umbridge (thank God) and, unfortunately, no more Sirius Black. With the plot no longer dragging, Half-Blood Prince dials up the action. Death Eaters freely roam the land again, causing those who had previously believed Lord Voldemort's return to be rumor to accept the hard truth. The safety they had enjoyed for over a decade is now a thing of the past. Fear paralyzes the wizards of England, leaving only a few to fight to defend the lifestyle they had been enjoying prior to the events of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

Harry Potter leads this group of defenders, but his mission is much more complex. Professor Dumbledore entrusts him with a mission. The two of them work to unlock the mystery of the Horcruxes, mystical objects used by Lord Voldemort to save aspects of his soul after he lost human form. The two men work to uncover as much as the nefarious wizard's plans as they can before the inevitable final showdown with him and his followers. Simultaneously, Professor Snape's storyline is made murkier due to his actions with Bellatrix and her nephew, Draco Malfoy. Snape makes an Unbreakable Vow to the boy, thereby enjoining them until some yet-to-be-determined event is executed. In the end, the Death Dealers trick their way into the sacred ground of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. This leads to a climactic showdown at the school's astronomy tower, and one of the good guys does not survive this clash.

The first four movies in the Harry Potter franchise have earned a jaw-dropping $3.5 billion worldwide, and that total will surpass $4 billion in a matter of months when Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is released. They have averaged domestic box office of $280 million, meaning that the normal Harry Potter movie's financial performance is one of the top 30 performers of all-time. Potter productions comprise four of the top 13 opening weekends ever recorded with a fifth entry a slam dunk in July. From a box office perspective, saying that Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince will be an exceptional performer is like stating that the sun will rise tomorrow…and if it doesn't, who cares how well a movie opens? Free download Just Married movie

Romantic comedies are generally a tough sell at the box office, particularly when they have no real bankable stars. Just Married looks to be no exception.

Ashton Kutcher (Dude, Where's My Car?) and Brittany Murphy (8 Mile) star as a Tom and Sarah, a couple who get married against the wishes of friends and family members who believe they are just too young. Tom comes from a blue collar background and is now a sports announcer, while Sarah's family is wealthy and snooty. After their wedding, the pair goes to Europe for what they hope will be the perfect honeymoon, but things soon turn hellish thanks to Sarah's conspiring family and ex-boyfriend (played by Christian Kane, who was deliciously evil for a couple of seasons on the WB's Angel).

Although Just Married has been fast-tracked for a quick release by the studio, it remains to be seen whether they will throw the necessary support behind the film. It's a cute, if unoriginal, concept with an engaging cast; unfortunately, that wasn't necessarily enough for recent rom-coms like The Sweetest Things and Life or Something Like It. Though there are certainly surprising breakouts in the genre (see: Meet the Parents, Miss Congeniality), they're the exception rather than the rule, and almost always require a big-name star to drive the ticket sales. Don't Say A Word is based on the Andrew Klavan book, which won the 1992 Edgar Award for Best Novel. A New York psychiatrist, played by Michael Douglas, has his daughter kidnapped by a criminal played by Sean Bean, who is best known in the US for his role as Alec Trevalyan, the villain in Goldeneye. The trick here is that Bean's character, Patrick Koster, can only get the money from a heist if he can pick the brain of a catatonic patient (played by Brittany Murphy of Clueless fame). It's this problem that causes him to kidnap the shrink's daughter, to force the doctor into treating the woman. The role is unusually personal for Douglas, because he was the subject of a foiled kidnapping attempt as a boy.

This film continues to bounce around the schedule. It was originally targeted for a 2002 release, then was slotted for Thanksgiving. Any discussion about its October competition is obviously premature, due to the shakiness of this prior movement and the number of other releases currently scheduled for October 5th. This most recent move doesn't make a lot of sense, so we'll withhold judgment until we're more certain it sticks and none of the four other major releases bails to a different weekend. (David Mumpower/BOP)

August 3, 2001
As expected, the last release date change was not a final one and the film has been pushed up to the less crowded date in late September. It bears noting that while there are fewer releases currently slotted for the weekend of September 28, it is still a very competitive date so there still exists the possiblity that this release will move again. Hope is nature's way of enabling us to survive so that we can discover nature itself.

Ayurveda is an ancient science of life and art of healing where body, mind and spirit are all equally important. Director Nalin Pan uses this documentary feature to take viewers on a journey of discovery through scenic vistas of India, Greece and the US. There is no commentary or narration used in the film. Instead, the story is told from the point of view of various exceptional Vaidyas (Ayurvedic doctors), including ten who are internationally renowned in their field. One billion people are treated by Ayurveda today, though it is a legal practice only in India and Sri Lanka. Despite the fact numerous countries specifically ban Ayurveda by law, shampoo, yoga and plastic surgery all have their roots in the practice of the holistic health care system.

The unique method of healing was actually developed over 5,000 years ago in India and the mountains of the southern Himalayas. The word "ayurveda" comes from the Sanskrit words "ayus", meaning life and longevity, and "veda", meaning knowledge and science. Translated literally, the practice is the science of life and involves harmonious integration of mind, body, spirit and senses.

Self-taught filmmaker Pan grew up in the Indian countryside with ample opportunity to live Ayurveda, and once he began the creative process, the project took over three years to complete. The documentary was shot in Super 16 format and will be distributed by Kino on a very limited basis in North America. The movie has already been released in both Switzerland and Germany, where it opened on a surprising 50+ screens. Don't look for that to happen in the US, but positive audience response will go a long way toward determining how much expansion Ayurveda: Art of Being might see. It should be a great candidate for appearances at the various film festivals. (Kim Hollis/BOP)

This film about a dysfunctional family marks the directorial debut of the film's writer, Burr Steers, who was the co-writer of How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.

Kieran Culkin stars as Igby Slocumb, a teen from a very dysfunctional family who has had enough. His father (Bill Pullman) is losing touch with life. His mother (Susan Sarandon) is a cold woman with a drug dependency. And his brother (Ryan Phillippe) has always been the favored child and is going to be heading off to Columbia University.

Igby decides to go on a spending spree with the help of his mother's credit cards. He's sent off to live with his godfather (Jeff Goldblum), a pompous, wealthy businessman who's charged with giving Igby some guidance in life. While in New York, Igby meets some lovely young ladies (Claire Danes and Amanda Peet) and finds that life is now full of interesting possibilities. But can Igby ever break free from his family once and for all?

Even with the big names in the cast, this film is scheduled for limited release. MGM/United Artists is distributing it. I'm not sure why they decided to go this route, but watch for it at a theater near you. (Marty Doskins/BOP)

Loot

Comic book readers know the name of Brian Michael Bendis very well. The man is arguably the hottest writer in the industry today. None other than Todd McFarlane himself chose Bendis to write the Spawn spin-offs of Hellspawn and Sam & Twitch. The scribe's pedigree is impeccable and recently, he has been looking to expand into other fields. With Jinx, Bendis is taking a leap into the movie realm.

Who or what is Jinx? A prequel of sorts to the popular Bendis book, Goldfish, Jinx continues upon the author's favorite theme: the lawless nature of urban street life and how analogous it is to the Wild West's days of yore. The character of David "Goldfish" Gold is a small time grifter forced to work a job with Columbia, a thug he doesn't like. The two men are suddenly accosted by a car driven by two dying henchmen. One of these guys gasps the secret location of a stash of loot before giving up the ghost.

The difficulty Goldfish and Columbia face is that to recover the $3 million mentioned, the men must set aside their animus and work together. The uneasy alliance works well enough at first, but then a gorgeous female bounty hunter named Jinx enters the equation. Goldfish and Jinx quickly fall in love, leaving Columbia to question whether he would rather split the loot three ways or keep it all to himself.

Even worse, the real owners of the cash have discovered it's gone missing. Needless to say, they want it back. Goldfish and Jinx must fight enemies within and without while trying to determine whether they trust one another.

To hear Bendis describe the genesis of the Jinx character is to become immediately intrigued. Having made the decisions involving who the character would be, the graphic novelist was fortuitous enough to encounter a woman who perfectly fit the mental image he had for Jinx. As he engaged the woman in conversation about her profession, she described herself as being exactly like Robert De Niro in Midnight Run.

Given this assertion and the knowledge that bounty hunting was a relatively untapped genre of modern cinema (Midnight Run being the only well recognized recent one), Bendis was able to vividly recreate a graphic novel representation of such a woman. Now, he will attempt to make a fully detailed theatrical version as well. 2004 Academy Award winning actress Charlize Theron is the rumored casting choice for the titular lead with other roster additions expected to be named in the coming months. We might have a winner here. Alcon Entertainment is the production company behind the urban comedy Lottery Ticket. The studio began making movies in 1999, and Warner Brothers has been distributing their films since the year 2000. Audiences will have to take a chance, open their wallets, and get a ticket if they want to see if Lottery Ticket is a winner.

Bow Wow will star as an 18-year old-young man living in a forgotten neighborhood who wins a lottery worth $350 million. The film will explore his reaction to his incredible luck and his efforts to survive a long three-day weekend while holding the winning ticket. Before he can collect on his winnings, opportunistic neighbors try to take advantage of the young man's good fortune. Ice Cube will play a withdrawn former boxer who lives in the basement of the building where Bow Wow lives.

Alcon Entertainment appears to have made a good decision bringing in Ice Cube and Bow Wow to be part of the project. Both men have enjoyed success in the music industry and have branched into television and film very easily. Bow Wow's notable film roles include Like Mike (2002), Roll Bounce (2005), and Fast and The Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006). Ice Cube has enjoyed even more success on the big screen, being involved with such projects as Boyz n The Hood (1991), Friday (1995), Anaconda (1997), The Players Club (1998), Three Kings (1999), Barbershop (2002), and Are We There Yet? (2005). With the long history of achievement on the resume of these two men Lottery Ticket doesn't look like much of a gamble for Alcon Entertainment.

The film could be the latest in a series of movies that continue to put Alcon Entertainment, which is owned by founders Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove, on the film making map. My Dog Skip (2000) was their first success and was made on a budget of just $6 million. It brought in about $35 million worldwide. Insomnia (2002) was their next winner. It was made for $46 million and took in $113 million globally.

Racing Stripes (2005) made $90 million total. The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants (2005) and its sequel, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 (2008) both made nearly double their production budgets. 16 Blocks (2006) didn't raise any eyebrows at the box office but it was a hit on DVD. The studio's crowning achievement was the 2007 drama P.S. I Love You, which was made on a budget of $30 million and brought in a whopping $145 million internationally.

The script was penned by Abdul Williams. Erik White will make his big screen directorial debut with this movie. (Jason Barney/BOP)

Love Story 2050 Download free

It had to happen someday. When Guy Ritchie married Madonna, it was only a matter of time before they wound up working together. After shooting a video for her last year, as well as including her in a stylish ad he did for BMW, Ritchie takes a dramatic departure from the tone and subject matter of his previous films (Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch) to direct the Material Girl in a remake of Lina Wertmüller's 1974 film, Swept Away.

That film was an Italian production and had strong political undertones, as it told the story of a group of wealthy, spoiled socialites who have chartered a yacht for a holiday in the Mediterranean. Primary amongst them is a bratty but beautiful woman who picks on the crew, giving special attention to a Sicilian who also happens to have Communist tendencies that are in direct opposition to her right-wing views. While out on a trip to search for sea caves, the conflicting duo's dinghy breaks down, and they have to fend for themselves on a deserted island. Since the mariner obviously has far superior survival skills, it is he who is in charge now, and he becomes abusive and forces her to become his love slave, which sets off an odd romance between the two.

In the Ritchie-penned update, Madonna will play the spoiled socialite Amber, while Adrianno Giannini, the son of the man who played the sailor in the original film (Giancarlo Giannini), takes on the role his father played nearly 30 years ago. The supporting cast includes the wonderful Bruce Greenwood (Thirteen Days) as Amber's evil industrialist husband, Jeanne Tripplehorn (The Firm, Timecode) as a snooty friend, and Jennifer Aniston in a cameo appearance. Filming took place in Malta and should make for some stunning cinematography.

Currently, it is unclear whether Columbia Pictures plans to initially debut Swept Away in a limited number of theaters before a full wide release. Madonna herself has been less than consistent in her ability to carry a film and draw audiences, so her name on the marquee is no guarantee of strong business. Though Ritchie definitely has a nice little fan base established on the strength of his stylized crime capers, the switch to romantic black comedy may be a tougher sell. (Kim Hollis/BOP)

Boy genius Wilbur Robinson invents a machine that recovers forgotten memories, and inadvertently travels forward in time, where he encounters a family whose survival depends on his ingenuity.

Wilbur Robinson's house is greatest place in the world to visit. Living in his home are a wild assortment of relatives that is unlike any other. Wilbur's aunt has a train that is life sized and his uncle has all kinds of deep thoughts - ("Mississippi spelled with o 's . . . would be Mossossoppo!" His grandfather is the trainer of a dancing frog band, and Cousin Laszlo has just created a new antigravity device.

Wilbur himself is a boy genius. He has invented a machine that can recover memories that have long been forgotten. Somehow, he manages to accidentally travel forward in time. There, he meets a family whose very survival relies on Wilbur's smarts and ingenuity.

Based on a children's book by William Joyce, the story will be adapted for the big screen in the form of a CGI-animated flick from Walt Disney. The book is definitely very well-loved, and if the wacky adventures and characters can be translated as feature film denizens, it could be a lot of fun. Early signs definitely point to the tale being targeted to a very young demographic. (Kim Hollis/BOP)

As the marketing geniuses across all Hollywood studios continue to mine the halcyon days of our youth in order to make a quick buck, one thing is clear. This is Lindsay Lohan's world and we're just living in it.

That's right. A combination of two different movie trends is poised to meld together into one hybrid. In the past few years, the theatrical recreation of beloved television shows from our youth has become the industry standard. While there have been the occasional missteps like The Mod Squad and The Avengers (Did I say missteps? More like out and out disasters.), many successes have been significant. Starsky and Hutch, Charlie's Angels and Scooby-Doo have all performed exceedingly well at the box office.

Meanwhile, the kind folks at Disney were bewitched by a precocious, perky little girl...so much so that they cast her in the re-make of their classic The Parent Trap. That went so well that when she grew up a few years later, she was again cast in the remake of a Disney classic. And that film, Freaky Friday, was such a solid hit that the studio couldn't wait to hire her back on another remake. That movie, the as yet unreleased Herbie: Fully Loaded, is another attempt to utilize Lohan's charm to reinvigorate a franchise.

In the interim, other studios watched with interest as Lohan's star began to rise. Paramount capitalized on her growing popularity by casting her in Mean Girls, a film which became one of the most financially successful films the studio had in 2004. While her other recent non-Disney release, Confessions of Drama Queen, was not a hit, it was a money maker as well. Studios have growing confidence in Lohan's ability to draw in the teen audience for her films.

Now, the two trends, Lohan in a re-make and TV-to-movie re-make, are set to dovetail in I Dream of Jeannie. After months of rumors about who would frontline the production as a genie a blink and a nod away from making every man's fantasy come true, Lohan is signed, sealed and delivered. Very little else about the production is settled. Only director Gurinder Chadha of Bend It Like Beckham fame is confirmed. The rest of the cast - including the equally key role of Captain Anthony Nelson, formerly performed by Larry Hagman - remains unannounced. With the similarly-themed Bewitched likely to beat I Dream of Jeannie into theaters, it remains unknown how long this production will wait before the shoot begins. (David Mumpower/BOP)

Indian director Mira Nair brings us this look at many of the customs and traditions surrounding Indian weddings. The film has been shown at many film festivals and has drawn rave reviews from critics. Also, it won the Best Film Award (Golden Lion) at the Venice International Film Festival.

The film follows the Verna family as they gather for a last minute arranged marriage in New Delhi. The excellent screenplay keeps the viewer's attention as the stories of five families are brought together for the event. Many actors and actresses were employed to bring us this tribute to a city where at many times the modern day collides with the traditional culture of the area. In Nair's own words, "It doesn't look like anything else I have done before. Monsoon Wedding is a genuine Indian movie."

If you've ever wondered how marriages are celebrated in different cultures, make sure you see this film. Keep an eye out for it at your local independent film venue. (Marty Doskins/BOP)

Morning Walk Download free

A Walk to Remember is a teen drama that focuses on all the usual teen angst issues. The story centers on a girl who is socially awkward and does not fit in. As she gets closer to the popular guy on campus, he pushes her away in a classic teen pseudo-class struggle. He then realizes his mistake and attempts to win her back but a broken heart is not easily mended.

The two leads are played by Mandy Moore, teen pop star, and Shane West, most known for his role in Whatever It Takes, in which he played more or less the same character that Moore plays in this film. The movie, which is based on a book by Nicholas Sparks, focuses on Jamie (Moore), the conservative daughter of a Baptist minister, and Landon (West), the popular guy in school. One of Landon's pranks lands him the punishment of helping out with school activities where the two meet. The more they learn about each other, the more attracted to one another they become. But with Jamie's strong faith and Landon's role in teen society, they have to overcome many before love will prevail.

The trailer and ads for the film push Moore heavily and really go for the emotional element of the story. Some of the ads are reminiscent of the behind-the-scenes ads that were used for The Majestic; they feature both Moore and West speaking, out of character, about the movie. Obviously, Warner Bros. is hoping that A Walk to Remember will fair better at the box office than The Majestic.

Teen dramas are usually not very successful but they do have some staying power, as they are mostly effective in what little they attempt to achieve. This type of movie has seen its share of success, most notably Save The Last Dance from 2001. A breakout is still unlikely for A Walk to Remember but it should do reasonably well over time. Murder 2: FREE Download Links!

In 1992, actress Sharon Stone became a rising sensation with her leg-crossing antics in the thriller Basic Instinct. In that story, a former rock star and current night club owner is found murdered in his bed. Detective Nick Curran (Michael Douglas), a former drug addict and alcoholic, is assigned to the case, and is led to prime suspect Catherine Tramell, an attractive but manipulative novelist who had been dating the murder victim. When it is learned that the murder style was copied directly from one of Catherine's novels, police psychiatrist Beth Gardner - Nick's ex-girlfriend - becomes involved in the case. As the mystery gets murkier, Nick gets in too deep and starts to see almost everyone as a suspect.

Now, nearly 14 years to the day after the first film was released, a sequel will hit theaters. In this film, Catherine Tramell finds herself in trouble with the law again, though this time it's in London rather than San Francisco. David Morrissey will portray a criminal psychologist who has the task of evaluating her for Scotland Yard, and in this man, Catherine may have just met her match.

Along with Stone and Morrissey, Charlotte Rampling will also play a psychiatrist and David Thewlis (Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban) will portray a police officer.

Given the reception of Stone's recent performances - particularly as the villainess in Catwoman - it's difficult to conceive that a Basic Instinct sequel will find much success. Still, it's certainly a known franchise and like Hannibal Lecter, moviegoers might just be intrigued enough by the character that they'll check in just to see what happens. (Kim Hollis/BOP)
