There are some things that just work in the movie business. One of them is to make sure to sign a rising young actor who has become a heartthrob to millions of young American females to a romantic role. Another successful strategy is to take an actor from a popular film franchise and sign him, which will appeal to the fans of the franchise that made him popular. Summit Entertainment has done both and is looking for fans to embrace the film Remember Me.
Remember Me will be another film that adds to Robert Pattinson's growing stardom. Pattinson will play Tyler Roth, a 23-year-old man who has been trying to cope with the suicide of his brother. Unable to deal with the tragedy Tyler's parents separate, only adding to the young man's grief. As the story unfolds, he encounters Ally Craig (played by Emilie De Ravin), who has suffered a very similar tragedy. Tyler spends weeks trying to figure out if he is in love with her or not.
Robert Pattinson was thrust into the limelight with his role in Twilight in November of 2008 and young audiences responded. While the quality of his acting and his chemistry with the other cast members were unspectacular, the response he received from teenage girls familiar with the Twilight book series was remarkable. Their vampire inspired romance with Pattinson thrust the film forward to being one of the most successful films of 2008. The $191 million it made domestically was largely due to the interest of young females infatuated with the young man.
Remember Me appears to have more than just Pattinson's fame working for it. Pierce Brosnan has signed on to play Charles Roth, Pattinson's on screen father. After the James Bond films, Brosnan is one of the more recognizable actors in the business and his role in Mamma Mia! (2008) helped catapult that movie as an international mega hit. Adding to the list of very noteworthy performers are Chris Cooper and Lena Olin. Cooper has delivered memorable roles in films like A Time To Kill (1996), American Beauty (1999), The Bourne Identity (2000), and Syriana (2005). Olin brings her long experience in film (Unbearable Likeness of Being, Romeo is Bleeding, Chocolat) to add to the talent.
For Summit Entertainment, Remember Me may also add to a list of growing successes in recent years. In addition to Twilight, the studio was responsible for Knowing (2009) and Nim's Island (2008).
Remember Me is written by Will Fetters and Jenny Lumet. Allen Coulter directs. (Jason Barney/BOP)
